Do you want to support folk in need during this pandemic? We do.
Have you waited 5 weeks for 'someone else' to organise it? Us too. Well kind of.
Pink Saltire, the Scottish LGBT community charity, are appealing for funds to support the ongoing relief effort helping those most in need during the COVID-19 pandemic or at risk of isolation. There's already relief efforts happening in Edinburgh, Dumfries & Galloway and Fife. We know there is demand in other areas, especially for LGBT+ asylum seekers and refugees, but we can't hope to meet that demand without extra help.
Help from folk like you. (Ruby slippers optional!)
We want to expand the relief to new areas around the country so each region can respond to local need.
We believe that using Scotland's network of local LGBT groups and charities, from Pride organisers to book clubs, we can all do our bit to support the community relief effort.
We'll do that by providing grants to help with:
- care packs to keep our mental & physical health in good condition
- food vouchers for major supermarkets
- mobile phone top-ups
- mixed fruit & vegetable packs (subject to local availability)
- digital kit & mobile broadband for those disconnected from the online world
- Digital First Aid support for up to 3 months
WHY Pink Saltire?
Not heard of us? That's ok. We were founded in 2014 and we're a registered charity (SC044851). Our turnover was above £80,000 for the year up to the end of March 2020, we just haven't had our accounts audited yet (for obvious reasons). Our previous accounts are listed here , so you know a bit more about us!
We're already doing relief work in Fife , where our offices are based. Our local COVID-19 response launched across the Kingdom this week and is now fully operational. We're also offering mutual aid support to the relief effort in Edinburgh (run by MATE ) and in Dumfries (run by D&G LGBT Plus ). We're actively engaging with relief efforts being organised in other areas too.
Our connections with local LGBT organisations are excellent - we've founded several Scottish Pride groups, organised local events all over Scotland and we sit on 7 local or regional LGBT network groups.
We want to empower communities - and you can help!
