Buenos Dias Scuba with Alison family!!

I miss you all SO much.  COVID-19 has shut down Cozumel and stopped businesses in their tracks!  We were forced to close March 18th.   I have been keeping up on Carlos’ and Israel’s salaries and medical payments, but it’s hard with no income and I am starting to worry.  Worse, the boys so depend on the tips they receive from the divers.

Cozumel just keeps moving to stricter protocols.  There is a currently a curfew from 7 pm to 5 am and the military and police are out in force trying to get people to stay in their homes.  They even asked people walking dogs not to walk more than one block from home.  They aren’t doing enough tests yet so we aren’t sure how bad it is, but they think the worst is coming in the middle of May.  The government has handed out boxes door to door with some beans, pasta and rice.

All of my divers know me.  We are like family.  Anyway, I HATE asking anyone for money.  Goes against my independent streak.  However, I won’t be able to keep up the drain.

Today is my birthday.  I have only one birthday wish:

Please help Carlos and Israel maintain a decent standard of living for themselves and their families.  You can do that by making a donation here on GoFundMe.  I understand that many of you have lost your jobs just like us, but if you can afford to and if you would like to help out, any amount, no matter how small is greatly appreciated.

You all know Carlos, but maybe you don’t know who he takes care of.  He is responsible for his wife Mari and son David at home.  David is still recovering from a motorcycle crash last year.  His son Cristian is in Merida for university and relies on Carlos for support.  Carlos’ granddaughter Emily and her mother Ale live in Cozumel and Carlos has always helped them out too, even more so now when there is no work.  That’s six mouths to feed.  We all call him Carlos, but them? They call him Papa Carlos.  You know him as the jokester, but really he is a family guy.

Some of you may not have met Israel, but he does the hard work that gets the boat out every day.  At 6:00 am he brings the tanks and sets up the boat in the morning and then he runs all the business errands. At noon he comes back to unload the boat, wash the gear and fill the tanks.  He works extremely hard.  He doesn’t speak much English so you may not have spoken with him.  He does not drink and is quite religious.  He really is so important.  Israel has three generations at his house. He has eight mouths to feed!  He and his wife Diana are caring for his son Saudy and daughter Karina and their grandkids, Abner 6, Alan 4, Angie 2 and baby Sofi who is 2 months old.   Israel is such a nice man and truly a wonderful family man.

So, there they are and they could really use your help.  It’s hard for me to ask.  Well Rick made me.  Most of you know him as ¨Jefe¨.  He is both completely trustworthy (except with your margaritas) and can get the money to the island quickly and in cash.  He apparently has also donated a few special “thank you” gifts to the first 12 people to donate $100 US to the cause.  So send an email to me and Jefe if you don't leave your info here as soon as you donate. All money raised will go to the boys’ salary, social security and the propinas (tips) they are not getting to support them.  I hope soon this will be over and we can get together for some diving and margaritas!
