Peruvian Relief

In Peru, 70% of the economy is based around informal or self employment. There are no food banks, unemployment benefits, government loans, or anything of the sort available. Since March 15th, Peru has been under Stay at Home Orders, and is in a state of emergency. This order does not allow residents to leave their homes unless necessary and much less work. The only reason its residents can leave their homes is to do deemed essential things, such as buy groceries or go to the hospital. Even so, only one person per household is allowed to leave at a time. The S./ 370 (roughly $115) per family stimulus payment (set to be distributed twice over 4 weeks) that the government designated for people in poverty never arrived to many who were not counted in the census. This is a consequence of residents having a lack of access to their documents and/or census takers having difficulty reaching their homes due to them being very inaccessible.

At this time, we are collecting donations to purchase basic food baskets for as many families as possible. The food baskets include: 5 kg (11 lbs) of rice, 2 kg (4.4 lbs) of sugar, 5 cans of tuna, 2 kg (4.4 lbs) of noodles, 4 cans of milk, 2 liters (.5 gallon) of cooking oil, and 1 kg (2.2 lbs) of beans. Each basket has an estimated value of $24 (S./75). Our goal is to get baskets to 1000 families.

100% of the donations will be used towards these baskets. The baskets will be put together and delivered by volunteers that are in Peru.
