Translating novel The Poor and Wise Old Man

Donation protected
"El Viejo Pobre y Sabio" (The Poor and Wise Old Man) is my first published novel. It was initially written in Spanish and became available in 2010. Since that time, many friends and acquaintances in the United States of America and around the world who do not speak or read Spanish, have begged me to get it translated to English.

Although I am proficient in English, I found myself stumbling when trying to accomplish this myself, particularly facing the tremendous challenge of a two-hundred-thirteen-thousand-and-seven-hundred words work. Soon I realized that speaking several languages does not qualify a person to be a translator. Other good-willing bilingual supporters also gave it a try, but they could not keep up with the massive task either.

"El Viejo Pobre y Sabio" is a historical fiction novel that I wrote over a period of almost thirty years. The first idea came to my mind when I was a thirteen-year-old boy. It tells the story of a young man who lives approximately 1000 BC in a city located far east. An old man has been looking for him over centuries because he has an important message to deliver to him. Once both finally meet, some incredible things take place.

Readers have described the novel as inspiring, uplifting and entertaining. Getting it translated to English will benefit many other readers who are hungry for this genre but are currently constrained by the language barrier.

After years of research and trying different translation agencies, I have finally found the one I have substantial evidence is going to do a great job: Traducciones Traviatta from Madrid, Spain. The funds collected on this GoFundMe campaign will only be used to pay for the cost of the translation.

The sooner I get the funds, the sooner they can start the translation of the whole work. So far only a few chapters have been translated at my expense.

Your support will mean a lot to me. To have it published in English will be a dream come true, and honestly being funded is the only opportunity for an independent artist as myself.

Perhaps in this pandemic time, it sounds a bit out of place to ask support to translate a book in light of the many needs people around the world are experiencing. However, those who currently are and have been confined know very well how helpful it can be to have a book in hand to help overcome loneliness, boredom and even anguish.

As a token of gratitude, all funder's names will be listed once the book is translated and published. All those who contribute with USD 100 or more will receive an autographed copy of the book and have a special mention.
