Designate Racism a Public Health Crisis

Donation protected
Dear Patron,

The Palmer Foundation needs your help! The foundation was created in 1955 as a nonprofit, unincorporated, association, to serve the urban and rural “at-risk” children and their families living in poverty.

Because I believed that education was a key for helping to change or improve their conditions, I created the Black People's University of Philadelphia Freedom School.

Our goal was to teach leadership, self-development, social awareness and problem-solving, which we have shared with communities in Philadelphia and around the country.

Up until the 1980s, we were a nonprofit, unincorporated, association and received our 501(C)3 federal tax-exempt status. And in 2000, we started the Walter D. Palmer Leadership Charter School.

In 2005, we borrowed 11 million dollars and built a state of the art school on 2 acres of land  donated to us by the city of Philadelphia, which housed our (200) preschool children and (600) elementary school children and we leased a large Catholic high school for our (500) middle and high school students.

We developed our own unique leadership curriculum with a focus on social justice, which allowed us to teach students, parents, and teachers how to solve problems with reading, writing, math, science, and computer literacy.

Over the past 65 years, we have led the fights for civil rights, education reform, police, court and prison reform, equity in housing, and income, as well as health and mental health solutions.

We are currently leading a national petition drive to have the United States government recognize and designate racism in America as a national public health crisis and have Congress create and structure a long term national dialogue on racism in America.

These are just a few of the many projects we are currently working on, and we would greatly appreciate any financial contribution you can give, for us to continue our work.

Sincerely,
W.D. Palmer JD. FPPC.
