Helping the Stevenson's - Memorial Fund

Hello, all,

On November 10th, my father—Mark Stevenson—passed away due to cardiac arrests that had caused swelling in his brain. He fought this condition for a little over a week before he had passed. There was no way that we could have predicted this outcome.

He left behind his wife, Supathra, and his three kids: myself (Alex, 17 years old), Emily (15 years old), and Connor (13 years old). Since he was the main provider, our biggest concern is losing our house and being unable to make the car payments as well as having enough money to send each of us to college.

My mother immigrated from Thailand to the United States to start a family with my dad. While he handled all the financial matters, my mom stayed home to take care of us and held two minimum wage jobs.

As his eldest, I was lucky to have spent most of my childhood and adolescence with him. I can recall fondly when I would come home from school and tell him about my day. We shared many traits, like our social awkwardness and nerdiness, as well as tastes, since we both were chocoholics with a loathing for vegetables. Every time I needed it, I looked up to his guidance.

Like most middle children, Emily is spontaneous and shared my dad’s humor; he enjoyed her vibrant energy. Our dad was there to cheer Emily on for her track meets, and in every track video, you can hear his support for her. He was impressed by how many people knew Emily just because of her extroverted nature and her spending most of her time outside.

As his only son, Connor looked up to our dad. Despite being making fun of Connor for his short height, my dad admired Connor’s benevolence. With Connor’s love for board games, he always turned to our dad to play with him in a game of Chess or Connect4 or getting me and Emily to join them in Domino’s or Monopoly. If there was anyone who enjoyed family time more than our dad, it would be my little brother.

It goes without saying that my dad was a dedicated husband, father, son, and employee. He was compassionate and cared about helping others, especially in his workplace. His quick-witted jokes brightened conversations with laughter. He was a hard-worker with a bright mind.

His life revolved around his family. In order to ensure that my siblings and I had better opportunities for our education and future, he worked hard and planned out our lives strategically. He loved spending time with us on road trips, telling funny stories at family meals, and attending our events for school and other activities.

With this loss being so sudden, we are asking for as much help as possible. Since we heavily relied on my dad, I am afraid that we are running out of options. The first concern my mom had after my dad passed was making sure that we continue to have a roof over our heads. Without such help, I don’t know what is in store of us.

This fundraiser will offset the costs of our mortgage. Our house is one of the few things we have that unites us and speaks to us as a family. If we cannot keep the house, I fear that we will lose our dog, Jack, and I wonder where we could go as a family. I hope to keep this home as long as possible as it is most essential to our lives.

Thank you for your help,
Alex Stevenson
