Response to natural disaster in Panama

At the beginning of November 2020, the Hurricane ETA impacted Central America and reached Panama where 19 people died and there are still more than 20 missing. In the area where the disasters were reported there was a chronological sequence of events since 1970, with no advance warning system established to help prevent the loss of human lives.

Currently in western Panama, I am participating in a cartography club that supports Indigenous and Campesino communities impacted by the hurricane. Many communities were left without communication for this reason the initiative arises to support the affected territories in receiving capacities with telecommunications and monitoring mapping to generate  a collective process of communication when responding to natural disasters.

Before the passage of Hurricane ETA, we supplied a telecommunications radio to an environmental organization and helped to communicate Cerro Punta with a rescue search.

With your support, we will be buying telecommunication equipment such as radios, repeaters, antennas and software to model floods and landslides. These equipment’s will be donated to the QGIS CLUB and non-governmental organizations dedicated to community work in the highlands of  the province Chiriquí, Panama.  Club Qgis Panama .
