Planta Project: Here There & Everywhere
With resource scarcity and rain on the horizon, the members of the Here There Community Camp are interested in growing plants beside their tents to provide food, materials and protection from the elements.
Planta (Plant Santa) seeks to provide the residents of Here There the plants they wish for this Christmas.
The Planta Project budgets $30 for plants or fungi per member, which affords: several varieties of seeds, a few small plants or mushroom plugs, a couple shrubs, a mushroom brick, or a young tree.
Funds that exceed the goal will be used to extend the gifts of plants & fungi to encampments throughout Oakland and Berkeley.
Recipients of Project Planta will receive training on plant care and remediating soil to produce drought-tolerant plants.
By donating to Project Planta, you ensure that useful and edible plants are established and accessed by people in need.
Project Planta sponsors will receive:
* campmember bios
* maps of plants & fungi shared for publicly and exclusively to GoFundMe sponsors, including recipe maps and plant status updates
* access to online workshops on gardening methods & producing drought-tolerant soil
Project Planta prioritizes purchasing from a local nursery, Planting Justice, which employs previously incarcerated and people with unemployable records.
Donations of plants and garden tools and are welcome.
About Here There: Here There is a sober camp settled in 2017, that shelters ~15 activists, artists, students, seniors, people with disabilities, and recovering addicts from diverse backgrounds who have lived on the street. These members operate the camp as a waystation that shares supplies with people in need. Surrounding the camp are gardens established by a few of the camp members, enjoyed by residents and passersby alike.
About This Year’s Planta: Planta is being performed by Leela Hann-Soden, urban cartographer and designer of Leela Maps, a free map notes platform for sharing information and resources.
