My name is John Barron, currently manager of Fundrums community drumming and Creation Sound Therapy.
Over the past 20 years, I have worked with almost every type of group in the community.
I work with groups throughout Waterford, Kilkenny & Tipperary providing sessions in Drum & sound therapy.
At the moment the main focus of my work is with Special Needs. Our sessions are tailored to these groups, providing a safe space for people to come, to have fun, be creative & relax.
Covid-19 as we all know has had a huge effect on the country, socially and economically.
For small business like mine it has been very challenging and also brings with it a new set of challenges.
In order to keep providing these services in a safe and creative way, I am now looking to raise funds to do this, as well as implementing some much needed changes to both where I am based and how I operate.
I am looking to raise funds for :
Accessibility (looking at ways to make sessions more accessible)
Other measures to adhere to new practices (social distancing etc)
New Equipment (both drumming & sound therapy)
Refurbishment of premises
Development of online services
This work is valued greatly in the community. The benefits to our clients are too numerous to mention.
If I were to receive funding to ensure the future of these programs it would mean the world to me as well as everyone who walks through the door, family, friends etc.
Even though there is funding out there for similar programs, It's very easy to "fall between the cracks".
I have never been able to receive any. Mainly due to being a small business and in particular a "sole trader". This may be my business status but the focus and commitment has always been to the community.
