Feeding Families

Food deserts have been identified in New Castle county. A food desert is defined as an Urban area where it is difficult to buy fresh or good quality fresh food. Our goal at Urban Acres is to introduce a healthier way of eating to adults and children in areas that we serve.

Urban Acres’ mission is to serve high quality fruits and vegetables to those who otherwise don’t have access through pop-up stands or home delivery. In addition to providing high quality fresh produce, we also strive to provide employment opportunities within the community, while building strong community relationships and partnerships.

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, Urban Acres’ mission became more difficult to fulfill. Urban Acres packages fresh fruits and vegetables in care packages at an average cost of $15.00 per package. The packages are delivered to families in New Castle County at no cost to the families.

Since we began distribution of care packages, we have delivered over 2000 care packages. We have been able to distribute these through generous financial donations as well as donations of fruit and vegetables. Currently, we are servicing over 200 families.

We at Urban Acres are thankful for the donations we’ve received. We realize that staying healthy during Covid-19 is critical, and we want to continue this most critical effort. In order to do so, we need your help. We are asking that you help us reach our goal of $3,000.00 so that we can continue the donations to families in New Castle County for the next three months. A donation of $15.00 will allow us to provide nutritious fruit and vegetables to a family of four for a week. Any donation will be greatly appreciated.
