Walk, Run Or Cycle 5km For Tralee Red Cross

Often the phone call starts with someone asking, “can you give us hand” at such an event……. Indeed this is how many people stepped forward to help and joined the Red Cross over the years. When the pandemic struck, the hands went up, from all corners of the county, “will you give us a hand?” we asked, they did.

They stepped forward to walk in the shoes of those who could not due to cocooning, their own fears cocooned within them as they went through the soil of our beautiful county, no corner that did not get trodden upon as we went to help people.

We are working extremely hard for the Covid19 pandemic. We are reaching out to the most vulnerable in our society during this time. From Ballylongford to Ballydavid, Dunquin to Derrymore, Waterville to Castleisland, Killarney to Listowel, Kenmare to Tralee, Glenflesk to Caherdaniel, Coominskta to Molls Gap, delivering care packages to the vulnerable people/ families in need in our local community. We are also delivering PPE to health care services and community service within the Kerry area.

However, we need your help, we are unable to carry out our annual fundraising events this year which covers the costs of maintaining our vehicles and equipment on a yearly basis and this year we had planned to put another ambulance on the road to serve the people of Kerry which we still hope to be able to achieve before the end of 2020. Therefore, we are holding a virtual 5km event on the weekend of the 22nd & 23rd August, walk run or cycle.

So we ask, that you complete this event over the weekend within the government guidance of social distancing and make a donation to our go fund me page and tag all your friends and family. Please send in your pictures so we can upload it to our page over the weekend. While there is so many great charities to support, this local charity will be there for you in time of need and there to look after you during your sporting events. We need you to support us in our time of need.

What have we done since the pandemic response started?
40 members are actively engaged in the response
Traveled more than 20,000km delivering hot meals, medications, fuel, groceries, care packs, well-being calls
In excess of 4,000 hours given voluntary
Been members of the community response forum
Increased our membership to met the demand for services
Delivered PPE to essential services
Changed the layout of our ambulances to make it safer for our volunteers and those we met.
