The Cats of Paint Lake Rescue

The Paint Lake region of Dorset Ontario  has a large population of feral cats. We believe that this the result of irresponsible pet owners who dumped a litter of kittens somewhere along this quiet rural road many years ago. Since then, the population of cats has exploded. Without our help, these animals will continue to reproduce, and the resulting cats become subject to a life of hunger, extreme weather conditions, predators and shortened life spans.

We have been caring for a small group of these cats, providing food, shelter and a warm place to sleep in our cold northern winters. Recently the feral moms have begun to bring us their kittens at younger and younger ages. We have taken this opportunity to help stop this cycle of feral population explosion.

We would like to help in a couple of ways:

1. Trap stray and feral cats. Have all the adult cats spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

2. Socialize all of the cats we bring in to our rescue, and find them good loving homes.

3. Develop and nurture a community of people who care about animal welfare, andthat of cats, particularly.

4. Where possible, use opportunities to educate about the issues affecting stray, feral and domestic cats.

With a little help from our community, along with support from any animal lovers who would like to contribute, we can begin to reverse this trend, find loving homes for some beautiful little animals, and take care of those that remain.
