Campaign for Sampson Park Children

Spende geschützt
When youth are able to explore their creative and innate talents, through exposure to extra-curricular activities, their potential for success academically exponentially increases. The Sampson Park Booster Club is moving on that opportunity to raise funds to support efforts to renew and revitalize our park’s athletic programs and equipment. Sampson Park is located in the ninth ward of New Orleans, Louisiana and, primarily, serves as a park for the Desire community, and G.W. Carver High School Alumni. From the large field and potential to build a nature garden, to the swings and basketball court, our youth can explore, learn, and obtain skills to support their future endeavors. Sampson Park's community pool, baseball diamond, and playground help to foster helping families enjoy activities together. Each part of our park is in need of rejuvenation and revitalization except for the painting that the people of the community recently completed in May 2020.  An additional community-wide clean up project occurred July 25, and the organization will continue to work together to rebuild the park to honor the legacy of Coach Bobby Roy and other Knights before him. A third clean up is occurring September 26th.  This overall capital campaign includes $75,000 in infrastructure, building, athletic equipment, and grounds updating needs.

Although Sampson Park is classified as a NORD (New Orleans Recreation Department) public park, it has  received very little financial, personnel, or physical support from NORD in over 12 years. The only way that the park has survived is through community leaders and private funders. A former coach of the park, Karl Washington, has recently spearheaded the renewed spirit in the park and the surrounding community. As an activist, a Carver alumni, and now living just next door to the park, he has been the perfect person to be selected as the President of the Sampson Park Booster Club. We are asking you to help Coach Karl, the Desire Community, and all the youth who will benefit from the programs that are run at the park to help us first rebuild our playground and make this park begin to be restored back to its former glory. We want to reestablish the Booster Club to help in ongoing fundraising efforts to sustain programming, and create a safe space where children and families can gather, play, and form a strong, vibrant arts and recreational community. Girija Kaimal, Assistant Professor of Creative Art Therapies at Drexel University, found that 45 minutes of creative activity significantly lessens stress in the body, regardless of artistic ability or talent.

So, help us reduce stress, be healthier, and foster community, by making a donation to the Sampson Park Booster Club. The money collected will help pay for new playground equipment, which will cost between $45,000 to $50,000, and we will use the additional funds to pay for the demolition, beautification, and maintenance of the park as previously noted in overall costs. We are looking for our play structure to have slides, a bridge, decks, stairs, play panels, craggy rocks, plastic climbers, tubes, and spinners.  We also want the base of the playground to be made of poured rubber flooring so it will last for a longer period of time than the previous playground renovation, which was in 2008. We also will work closely with community members to ensure that this new playground will last the park a long time through adequate maintenance, inspections, and love. "Play is our brain's favorite way of learning." --- Diane Ackerman.

The children need a playground: A magical place to climb, stretch, and run.  A space to socialize.  To imagine and learn.  To get fresh air.  To burn energy so they can concentrate on learning for the rest of the school day.  A space for children to play.  Please share our story with others, and know that any amount of donation really counts.  For questions about our GoFundMe "Campaign for Sampson Park Children", please contact Sampson Park at [E-Mail ausgeblendet] or Karl Washington at [E-Mail ausgeblendet]  Thank you in advance for your consideration!
