Wordplay Poetry - Supporting Black Initiatives

Wordplay is a poetry platform that wants to make a difference.
After the success of our first online event, Art is Expression, in June which raised relatable concerns, we have decided to launch a monthly poetry event to raise funds and support black initiatives within the community.
Our local area, Brent, has one of the highest crime rates compared to surrounding boroughs. According to the Kilburn and Brent Times, Brent had the highest Covid-19 death rate between 1st March and 1st June. The borough had the highest rate in the UK with 210.9 deaths per 100,000 population, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).
Brent is predominantly a Black and ethnic minority location and is considered one of the poorest boroughs in London. Local areas have now started to drop food boxes to the most vulnerable, but this isn't enough.
There are limited mental health resources to help those that have been impacted by isolation the most, and your donations will go towards supporting black initiatives in the local community that follow the social distancing guidelines:
- Virtual events/seminars: £5 can help organise further online events that discuss issues and the successes of the black community, promotes local talent and black initiatives.
- Outdoor mental health sessions: £10 can help organise mental health sessions in an outdoor space that involves expression through art.
- Food and feminine products: £20 can provide a box full of foods and feminine products to support our most vulnerable.
Our support has already started for the community. The donations we raised from our first online event in June were split between the Black Curriculum and the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust.
We want our support to be long-term, and we want poetry to be involved in this support wherever possible. We aim to start our work after our August event, just in time for the new term.
Every little helps, and any support you provide would be greatly appreciated. If you can't donate, then a share would be just as valuable.
