Funeral Fundraiser for Melissa Zaglanis

Donation protected
Monday August 3rd at 10:53am we said goodbye to my mother, Melissa Zaglanis and gave her to the heavens. She went quite peacefully with myself, Pam, and Rick by her side. This has been a terribly difficult journey with her these last 3 months and she's shown more strength than i could ever imagine.

This all started nearly 4 months ago during quarantine, Melissa started having severe stomach pain and finally called 911 to take her to the hospital. Once the EMT arrived, they tried to convince her to stay home and wait out her "stomach ache" but she is a feisty one and pressured that this was serious! So they took her to Grant Hospital in Columbus. Once arriving at Grant it didn't take long to realize she had a melon sized tumor in her uterus. The very next day they did an emergency double hysterectomy. She recovered at the hospital well for 3 days, then went to Aunt Pams for 10 days after. She was doing well, moving on her own, getting dressed and she wanted to go back home. So reluctantly, she went back home to finish her recovery.

Family calling and checking on her everyday, with covid running rapid at the time, it was safer for only phone calls. She assured us she was doing okay, was just sore. About a week passes and Melissa called me saying she can't keep any food down but refused to call 911 because of her previous experience. So i rushed over there... Now i don't want to sound insensitive, as this was the scariest moment of my life, but when i opened that door and saw her sitting in that chair, she looked dead. I grabbed all her things and rushed over to Pams house. Later that night she took another turn for the worse and Pam rushed her to the ER.

Once back at Grant, they removed her gull bladder, she had so much fluid in her lungs they kept collapsing, lost 45 pounds in ICU care that first month, got down to 64lbs! The put her on a ventilator shortly after arriving and thats the one thing her body couldn't recover from. She had another surgery to put in the tracheotomy since she continually needed her lungs suctioned out.  After the first month of intense ICU care and many many close calls, she was finally getting stronger. Gaining weight back, lungs clearing, weening off the vent. However, as you fix one thing, many more arise as was the case with Melissa. After 3 months if ICU care and seeing the pain she was in, we made the choice to move her to the Kobacker House.

When i say this facility is absolutely wonderful, i mean it! Highly recommend for everyone. She was finally comfortable, in real clothes, clean, smiling, and calm. She was clearly at peace.

Melissa led a wonderful life as all of you know. Always the fun one, laughing, and enjoying her friends and family. However, she was never one for formalities. Melissa didn't have any savings or Life Insurance so this sudden expense is completely out of pocket. With Covid and its impact on the economy, this isn't something myself or my family was financially ready for. The funeral home wanted the entire payment by day of service, but I've worked a 30 day agreement out with them. Thats 9k in 30 days! So please, absolutely anything you could donate to cover these expenses is greatly appreciated. Melissa had impact on and loved so many people, lets give some love back to her and lay her to rest properly.

She will have services  this Thursday (8/6/20). . Please send your love and keep us in your thoughts.
