Help Colleen support the Musicians of the NSO

Tax deductible
Colleen Pohran [nee- Sadler] has been an integral part of the history and longevity of the Niagara Symphony Orchestra since its inception as the St Catharines Civic Orchestra. This orchestra has always held a special place in Colleen's heart given that she met her husband Nicholas Pohran (deceased) during a time that she was performing as a pianist during a recording session in St. Catharines.    Always an avid supporter of the arts and especially music,  Colleen participated as both our official pianist and part-time manager while living in Niagara Falls.  She remained active in the life of the orchestra even after moving to Fonthill when her husband, Nicholas, retired from his medical practice many years ago.

After she and Nicholas married in 1950,  Colleen devoted her time to supporting Nicholas in his medical practice in Niagara Falls and raising their growing family of six children.  Even so, Colleen continued to stay active with the Symphony,  both serving on our board and ready to act as a volunteer wherever needed.   Colleen was especially relied upon as the "go-to" person for whatever was needed in various musical functions that the Niagara Symphony Orchestra offered within the community.   Whenever the orchestra needed her,  she was always there ready to help out.  It was a pleasure for some of the Symphony musicians to perform for her at her 95th birthday celebration in December 2019 at her retirement home in Fonthill.

Colleen was in palliative care at Lookout Ridge (Fonthill) until her recent passing.   Her children, Sonya, John, Sandra, Margaret, Chris, and Donna know that their mother would want to continue supporting the "Musicians of the Niagara Symphony Orchestra" especially during this time of scarcity and curtailing of most performing arts and musical functions.    Many musicians are quite likely struggling economically during these unprecedented times,  and it would be her wish that any donations made in her memory,  go directly to helping them out financially.   The family requests that in lieu of flowers,  that you would please consider helping our amazing volunteer,  Colleen,  continue to fulfill her life long dedication to the musicians of the Niagara Symphony Orchestra.

"I remember Colleen Pohran as a parent who was always there supporting her children when they were in the Youth Orchestra and always there in the audience at Niagara Symphony Concerts."
