Did you know 146,000 people live in food deserts in Baltimore?
My name is Cristi and I want to change that.
That is why I am launching a one-of-a-kind business called GroGive which will give people who are #Blessed the opportunity to directly help those in need become more food secure.
GroGive supporters will sponsor the growth of a tomato or pepper plant, either directly or by purchasing merchandise on our website. The plant will be grown from seed in the GroGive nursery, to maturity, and then be given to someone who lives in a food desert in the Baltimore area-at no cost to them. My goal is to provide at least 400 homes with one or both plants during the 2021 grow season.
Food security is one key to a more healthy and less stressful life. GroGive will increase food security one plant at a time.
WHAT WILL START UP FUNDS BE USED FOR?
-Start up equipment for a small scale nursery
-Start up materials for 600 plants
-Administrative costs like business registration, license, utilities, taxes, and insurance
-Marketing, including website and social ads
-A part time, living wage salary for four months
TIMELINE
Now-October: GoFundMe is live, merchandise design, nursery set-up
October 2020-Webstore launches with gifts in time for the holidays
February 2021-Growing begins!!
