We can’t begin to tell you all how much your love and support meant to both of them over the past week. Your generosity provided much needed reassurance and comfort during Lani’s last days and continues to provide support to Luisa as she navigates the difficult times ahead.

On August 14th, our dear friend Lani found out that she has tumors in her abdomen. After further testing, she received the devastating news that she has Stage IV pancreatic cancer. We've created this fundraiser to raise money to help pay for much needed additional caregiving support, as well as medical and living expenses, so that Lani and Luisa can spend time together without the added worry of bills.
Right now, Lani is at home in her apartment being taken care of by her daughter Luisa, with some limited help from hospice. Luisa is doing an amazing job in an already stressful situation and is dealing with the many medical challenges that arise daily, from administering pain medication to dealing with the red tape of managing insurance issues.
Lani is an incredible artist, a wise and supportive friend, and a strong and caring mother. It's heartbreaking that she has to deal with all of this, and while we can't change the diagnosis, we can help provide some comfort and security.
Lani has been such an important part of many of our lives in so many ways. She has left a colorful mark and has made countless friends in all of the places she's lived - Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Providence, Sag Harbor, Brooklyn, and finally Portland, ME.
Please consider donating any amount, large or small. Lani has always used her creativity and problem-solving abilities to support her friends, family, and community - now let's pull together during this time to help her.
