Family Support - Beirut Explosion

Few weeks ago, on the 4th of August 2020, I was with my family at our home in Mar Mikhael - Beirut, and, with a miracle, we survived the worst nightmare ever: "THE BEIRUT EXPLOSION".

Today, I am thankful that my family and I are still alive, but sadly we lost our home, car and mental health!

I am a Lebanese citizen, who lost her job and business in Tourism, Events and Exhibition during the COVID19 period. My parents are retired and my sister also lost her job because of the economic crises in our country.

Unfortunately Lebanon with all its beauty is on a never ending fight against our evil government who never knew how to take care of him and its people.
Until now, we have not received any compensation for all the damages and we do not trust that we will.

Because of the lack of income in the family, I would need your support to help us financially and cover my Mom's medical treatment (because of a severe rheumatoid arthritis case) for the upcoming 6 months (2000 per month) until we are able to settle down again.

The Day of Explosion:
It was around 6 pm, while I was heading back home to Mar Mikhael, I saw a lot of smoke coming out of the port area. I reached home and went for a shower, my mom was also just on her way back, she opened the door of the house, when suddenly we heard the sound of a plane nearby followed by the first sound of the explosion. I came out of the shower to see what was happening, my dad was next to me and the second big explosion happened!

I hugged my dad thinking that we are about to die, until we fell on the floor. I was screaming and asking my dad if he was OK, then I heard my mom screaming: “Blood…Blood!!...I walked towards her and my sister who had blood coming out of her head and legs, my mom’s T-shirt was filled with blood from her back.

The house and car were fully destroyed…..we were walking on pieces of glass and wood all over the place….I remember that I went to my room, soap was still on my hair, took a bag with my ID, and put in it a small statue of VIRGIN MARY I had in my room, because she saved us! YES SHE DID!

Our phones were damaged, somebody was calling me but I couldn’t reply as my screen was fully broken, I ran out on the street to ask for help, for the red cross, for anyone who can take us to the hospital….nobody was replying as everybody on the street were shocked, with blood all over their bodies, not knowing what to do, whom to call or where to go!
We had no other choice then to walk to the nearest hospital, YES WALK!!!, it took us half an hour to reach the first one, my mom and sister were losing blood and getting weaker.

The first hospital was also fully collapsed, the nurses outside were crying, trying to remain strong and help urgent cases, they told us, we have no other choice then to wait for a car passing by to take us to a hospital out of Beirut…..but all cars were full as they had to transport their own injured people.

Suddenly I saw a guy driving a car, he was a nurse, I begged him to take us to any available hospital. He said: Come with me! I’m going myself because my foot is injured badly while helping other people. I thank God he was there…..we visited 2 hospitals who were full and couldn’t take us until we finally reached a third one, it was so overcrowded, blood all over the place……what we saw was indescribable….the true feeling of an “APOCALYPSE”.
After waiting for 2 hours, the nurses were able to help, stop the bleeding and do my Mom’s and sister’s stitches.

I COULDN’T CRY, I was in shock and I still am. We lost our house, our car but comparing to other people who lost souls, I THANK GOD WE ARE STILL ALIVE……Only the memory of that day will haunt us forever…..and all this for what?…..because of some human stupidity, negligence, and evilness.
