Help Support Petey's Medical Fund

Petey is a very special dog with a very special story. 12 year old Petey and his 5 year old brother Sammy had a Dad who loved them dearly. Their Dad was Father Joe, a priest with a big heart at St. John Cantius Parish in Bridesburg (Phila, PA). Father Joe would take them everywhere with him, whether it was on vacations or just to the drive thru at the bank! His boys were everything to him and he was everything to his boys. Sadly, COVID took their Dad away from them in May of 2020. Petey and Sammy continued to live at the rectory for the next several months while a village of close friends and parishioners chipped in to take care of them. With their Dad up in heaven, the two were not able to live at the rectory forever and new homes had to be found. Super friendly, happy-go-lucky Sammy found a home with a woman who was grieving over the loss of her own dog just a few weeks prior. Their bond was instant, as if they were each waiting for each other to come into their lives. Sammy is now loved beyond words by his mom and his 11-year-old human brother. Next up was to find this super sweet senior, Petey, that same happiness. Within that week after Sammy left, Petey's path came together, as if Father Joe was placing arrows directing us all to the next step. A man from the neighborhood who has been looking to foster a dog in need saw Petey's post on Facebook and followed his heart. Today, Petey went to his new foster home with his new foster Dad! What makes this even more special is that his foster home is a 2 min car ride away from the rectory so 3 days a week, he'll be spending the day at the rectory with his St. John's family while his foster Dad is at work! This boy will be getting more attention and love than he'll know what to do with and he deserves nothing less! J&Co Dog Rescue has teamed up to take Petey under their wing and provide support during his time in foster care. In other words, Petey has a small army of people who are looking out for him and making sure his every need is met in his Golden years. Part of ensuring this is having the funds to cover his medical expenses. Petey was diagnosed with Cushing's disease less than a year ago and has been on medication ever since. There is also an annual test that is needed to gauge the progression of the disease. Petey's back legs are also arthritic and he will most likely need to be put on some pain meds to help with discomfort. Petey had an emergency vet appointment last Friday due to his inability to urinate and a loss of appetite. At the vet they determined he had a build up of stones in his urethra which was preventing him from being able to urinate. After some blood work, X-rays, a urine sample, a bag of special food, antibiotics and B12 supplements to get him back on track, the funds that were previously raised for his Cushing's medicine were depleted. The good news is once those results came back, it turns out that Petey had a severe bacterial infection and UTI. This meant the antibiotics he was put on will most likely clear up the infection and he will pass the stones on his own. This also took surgery off the table which was great news! Petey is back to greeting everyone with kisses and a wagging tail and is feeling better every day. This fundraiser is specifically to raise money for Petey's future care which includes his Cushing's medicine, his annual testing and anything else that he may need to ensure he can enjoy his newfound life as comfortably and with as with much spunk as possible!
