New Andrew Neil Studio Record Album

Donation protected
Andrew Neil is recording a new record album and publishing a book of his Lyrics (title TBD).

Since his release of his Grammy Considered "Freak" album, Andrew has written scores of new songs.  This new album will be a bit different in that it will go back to Andrew’s outsider Lo-Fi roots.... Just Andrew and his nylon string guitar.  The album will be stark, and very thought provoking.   The song on the video, "Before I'm Gone" is a good example of what will be happening on the album.   Think Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" (1972) and Jackson C Frank self-titled album (1965).  The plan is to record the album at Tree Heart Records, Hawksnest Studio.  This will be the first ever recorded here.  The intent is to provide the best quality recording at the lowest cost possible.

As you know, recording a full up record album in a professional studio can cost a bundle.   We are keeping this release as basic as possible.  Andy Waldeck, who produced Andrew Neil’s “Merry Go Round" and "Freak" will be the producer and recording engineer on this project.  Other expenses will be related to media production costs, which will be a limited run of 180-gram vinyl and CD's.  The album will be released digitally by Symphonic Distribution based out of Tampa Florida.

The funds from this campaign will be used for t
the graphic design and layout of the cover art,  the producer, provide final mastering of the separate files specifically for vinyl pressing and digital distribution and to produce the plates for pressing the vinyl.  Just to give you an example….to press 300 vinyl records (12" Records, 180-gram vinyl, white Inner Sleeves, Full-Color Labels + Jackets, Shrink Wrap) costs right around $2,500 plus shipping and taxes).  The cost to produce CDs is much less…. around $1200 for 1000 CDs. If we can raise funds to offset some of the production costs…. we can sell the vinyl at a very reasonable price.  Our intent is to get the music out!

The second half of this project will include the publishing of a book on the Lyrics of Andrew Neil (Exact title TBD).   The book will include some cool pictures of his early life and his artwork.  Part of the proceeds of this campaign will go into getting this book professionally edited and published.

This support would mean the world to Andrew Neil.

 Background:

A promising athlete out of High School, Andrew Neil was recruited by the US Military Academy, West Point for Lacrosse.   Andrew resigned his plebe year and suffered a bad head injury in a car accident shortly after returning home.  This accident, we believe, was a catalyst that brought on Psychosis and lingering mental illness issues.  He was eventually diagnosed with bipolar and schizoaffective disorders.

The shining light in all of this was that the bump on the head opened a creative side of Andrew and he began to write songs out of nowhere.  He writes about his struggles in his songs.   In the early years (late 2009-mid 2013), following the accident, Andrew literally became a recluse in the basement and wrote songs and poetry and painted pictures.   What makes Andrew Neil and "Outsider" Songwriter is he never had any music training and is uncompromising in his lyrics and unique melodies.  You hear almost a childlike timbre in his music with some dissonance at times.... but it works.   Andrew Neil taught himself to play his own unique style of keyboard and guitar by writing songs.  He made up his own chord shapes and to this day does not know the basic chord shapes.  He says his lyrics are his notes and he wraps the guitar around the words.  Andrew Neil has never learned or played a cover song.  Since mid-2009, when this musical journey began, Andrew has penned nearly 450 songs.

In 2013, Andrew had a psychotic episode that went very badly, and he was imprisoned for 8 months in an isolation cell awaiting trial.  He was found "Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity" (NGRI) and committed to the Virginia State Hospital System for treatment, where he remained for three years, until his conditional release in May 2017.  Since his conditional release, Andrew has release three full record albums, "Code Purple", "Merry Go Round" and "Freak".  During the recording of the album “Freak” in 2019, Andrew was diagnosed with Lymphoma Cancer.  He finished recording most of vocals on the album in between Chemotherapy Sessions.  It was an exceedingly difficult year for him, but he pushed through and was declared in remission in November of 2019.

As Andrew always says, “Music makes a difference in this Jello World”.  Please consider helping Andrew make a difference with his music by generously supporting this project.
