Butter Bean's Medical Journey

Donation protected
Butter is a 1.5 year old fur ball with an outgoing personality. There hasn't been one person say they weren't in love! Unfortunately, he started acting different about a month ago. Us being new to the cat world, had no idea what was going on with our once perfectly healthy feline. We took him to the vet where we were told that he could just have a viral infection. Shortly after, we didn't see any change in health, only a decline. He stopped eating completely, had 104.5 fever, lost 8lbs in just 3 weeks, and slept all day. We knew it couldn't be just a viral infection because antibiotics weren't helping our baby. Vanessa and I took him to get a second opinion and the vet immediatly suspected FIP. All of his symptoms pointed towards this deadly virus and she found fluid in his stomach, which is a classic sign of wet FIP.

FIP (Feline infectious peritonitis) is a viral disease that is caused by certain strains of the coronavirus. The vet told us that it was 99% fatal and is extremely progressive. There wasn't a cure in the United States. The only treatment was in China. We would have to make the decision to put Butter down. After extensive research, I found this treatment from China and found that we can get it in the US. We both knew t is the only way we can give him the fighting chance he deserves. He held on to life for us and we are going to do everything we can to fight for him and with him.

The treatment consists of 84 days of injections followed by a 84 day observation period. We knew that this was going to be costly due to the price of the medication and all the follow ups we have to do every 4 weeks. This is why we have set up a gofundme, in order to raise the funds needed to help us every step of the way. This is the only way to save our 1.5 year old fur baby and we started him on it as soon as we could. He has many more years to grow with us and be apart of our crazy family. We won't be in the clear for a while but he has already started to show extensive signs of improvement.

Vanessa and I are reaching out to our community to help us along the way. I am documenting every day of this process and will continue to raise awareness for this rare disease. Please donate if you are able. Give this a share and if you are interested in more information regarding FIP, I have linked an article by UC Davis below. Thank you for being apart of this journey! It will be a long and stressful but we are lucky to have an amazing vet and admin on Butter's team. If you don't feel comfortable donating this way, we have also set up our venmo's and cashapp. All funds raised will go directly to the cost of his medication.  Any left over funds will be donated to other families that are going through this heartbreaking diagnosis.
