Silverado Mudslides - Please help Williams Canyon

Williams Canyon is again under mandatory evacuations orders for mudslides! This is the 5th month in a row that our community has been ordered to evacuate..., followed by clean up! Our private road is not maintained by the county...we depend on neighbors, friends  and family. Your donations help us to recover from the ongoing damage following the Bond Fire.

The Bond Fire in Silverado CA has devastated the small community of Williams Canyon which is home to approximately 2 dozen residents; many are multigenerational community members that have called Williams Canyon home for over 40 years.  But their lives have been changed in an instant, when the Bond Fire woke the residents just before midnight: they had no cell, no landlines - no warning except from neighbors pounding on doors letting everyone know we got go NOW!!!. Most were forced to leave everything behind...pets, pictures, family heirlooms, legal papers and other necessities!

Today we are heartbroken to report that Williams Canyon community has lost a 1/4 of their homes and all have some degree of damage to their property. The Bond Fire will be remembered as the most devastating fire in recent history to the families in Williams Canyon.

When a fire this devastating happens this close to the rainy season, it means mudslides are the next threat.  Williams canyon's main road is a private road maintained by the residents - it is severely damaged, and today a fire hydrant broke and  heavy equipment and fire trucks are barely able to pass to the back of the canyon. This will be a bigger problem when the rains come as it is likely to wash the road away and then there is no way in or out at the back of the canyon.

This is our plea: Help us give the gift of home to every member of Williams Canyon for Christmas in 2020!

Funds will help members of our small community receive the assistance necessary to stabilize their housing needs and rebuild our little canyon community.

The problem:
New Covid shutdown in effect, and limited short-term local rental options
The rebuilding process is slow and very expensive in Orange County
Mortgage plus short-term rent is a hardship when facing limited income during Covid
Urgency: Rainy season is so close...mudslides to follow! Road is severely damaged!

The Solution:
Provide support for temporary housing
Assist with home repair or loan assistance to rebuild
Provide funds to complete community property repairs and cleanup following the Bond Fire.
