Martha's Journey

As many of you have been made aware, Martha has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has a long journey ahead with chemo, mastectomy, radiation, and reconstruction before it is all over.  Anyone who knows her, would not have to ask why this journey is so tough for us. To say "why do bad things happen to good people" would be an understatement. Martha has always put others first and would never ask or expect anything for herself. The sacrifices that she has made for her family, co-workers, and friends are endless. As her friend, I always tell her that she has the purest of hearts. No matter how poorly she is treated, she will always forgive and give more of herself to bring peace to any situation.

If you are a co-worker, you know that she has a work ethic that makes her almost indispensable and certainly someone who is rare to find. We all know that she has a beautiful family with a husband and four children who adore her. As most mothers are, she is the glue that holds things together.   Although she can stretch a dollar further than anyone I have EVER met, finances are a struggle particularly with the expenses that arise with her medical needs. All funds will go toward those added, unexpected expenses that come with a diagnosis and long journey of breast cancer. The first step is the wigs and caps as she has already started to lose her beautiful head of hair. The rest will go toward medicine, special foods, and supplies, and we would love to be able to have her getaway for small amounts of time between procedures to just enjoy some rest and relaxation in the middle of this battle.
