I'll be releasing an album in late 2021, and I've decided to donate all profits raised to support Mental Health care in the UK. I'm asking for your support in funding the production of the album, enabling us to release a truly inspiring record. Songs born from the darkest of days will help give light to those who are in need most. I've personally experienced the terrifying journey of mental health illness, and overcame it to be able to live within the world again. Not everyone wins that fight, and with your help we can use my experiences to help others.
THE PROJECT
Songwriting and singing became a huge part of my recovery - allowing me the room to process my illness and focus on that I had a future. I've put together a 12 track album (you can listen to demos here) which includes songs born from the darkest of days, as well as songs inspired by the hope of a better future. I plan to release two singles in the summer of 2021, with the album following November 2021. ALL of the profits from the physical and digital single/album sales, along with the streaming revenues, will be donated to CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) FOREVER. I love CALM's work and approach to helping people, and am so pleased that they have allowed me to work with them and form a commercial partnership together. CALM have a phone line that is open from 5pm every night, giving those who need it someone to talk to and to ask for help. Lines like these that can literally help to save lives, and they've become even more important since the Covid-19 pandemic. We need to do as much as we can to make sure there is help out there for people. I plan to create an inspiring legacy of fundraising and use these songs for the good of others.
I've enlisted the help of some absolutely wonderful musicians and artists to be part of the project, as well as an amazing producer (Myles Myerscough Harris - Son of Bob Harris - Radio 2/Old Grey Whistle Test) so the record will sound fantastic! I'll be releasing details of the musicians involved as project teasers on my website - you can also keep up to date with all the latest news on the project by following my Instagram or Facebook pages.
HOW WILL MY SUPPORT BE USED?
The initial funding target of £1500 will be used to fund the production of the album itself, the result being a professionally produced and mastered set of tracks that will be ready for distribution to physical and digital outlets. Any further funds raised after the initial target will be used towards the promotion and marketing of the record. More funds will lead to more promotion/press which will hopefully transpire to more downloads/sales/streams and therefore more funds for CALM, which basically means more people helped and potentially more lives saved. It's that simple.
PLEDGE REWARD LEVELS
I've set up a range of different funding levels which all include their own pledge reward. It's just a small way of saying thank you and giving you something to commemorate the teamwork! The levels start at £10 and run all the way up to £1000 - giving opportunity for both private and commercial funders to get access to a great range of benefits for being part of this legacy. MY MENTAL HEALTH JOURNEY
In 2016, whilst holding a Senior Management role within the travel industry, I collapsed at work and was taken to hospital with a head injury. Scans revealed no further physical concerns aside from severe concussion, and I was discharged with a diagnosis of stress and exhaustion. From that point my life has never been the same again. Hours after being home came a crippling panic attack, with flashbacks to my collapse as if I was hitting my head again. I struggled to even lift my head up, calm myself and contain my fear, all whilst within my own home. I felt that my world was ending, and after another medical visit came a diagnosis of severe anxiety and depression. In a matter of 24hours I had gone from a successful Senior Manager to literally being unable to put a sentence together. I was crippled by mental health illness, and later also received a diagnosis of PTSD. It took me just over two years from my collapse to get myself back into a position to function within everyday life, and I'm happy to say that now I'm in a better place than I've ever been. Not every mental health story ends that happily. I was very lucky that the role I held carried access to private healthcare. It gave me access to therapists very quickly, which alongside the help of my family and friends, saved my life. I know I would not be here now if it wasn't for the support I received, and I have to try to do something to make it possible that more people get that level of support.
