Tied to Light is a collective formed in 2020 by recent BA (Hons) Photography graduates Anna Luk and Lucy Kane. Its purpose is to support emerging artists exploring the expansion of photography through features, open calls and shared resources. We wanted to create a platform to connect fellow creatives whose practices push and unpick the boundaries of the photographic through experimental approaches to making.
We recently announced our very first Zine Open Call, something that we're so excited to be able to put into motion! As of yet we've only been using social media to showcase our featured artists, however we really wanted to give them the opportunity to have a tangible object that unites their work with other artists from around the world. The open call is open to all artists who are exploring the endless possibilities of the photographic medium through experimental and boundary pushing approaches to making and thinking. The selected artists will have the opportunity to have their work in print alongside other artists that explore the expansion of photography. The open call is free to enter so the majority of the project will be self-funded, with additional funds coming from the selected artists who will be kindly asked for a suggested donation of £10 to go towards the cost of production. We wanted to make sure that the submission process was easily accessible to everyone, so artists are only asked to donate what they are able to afford. All funds raised from zine sales will go directly into the running of the collective and its future projects.
We'd highly appreciate any extra donations (no matter how small!) to help support us in producing the zine as well as for creating more free opportunities for emerging artists. 100% of the donations will be used solely towards the organisation, logistic and admin expenses of running the collective.
