Hollie Flick Nevin Memorial Fund
On February 10th, 2021, we lost a beautiful mother, devoted wife, daughter, sister and friend to so many, Hollie Nevin, after her yearlong battle with breast cancer. It's difficult to summarize what a tremendous loss this is to not only those who knew and loved her, but to society as a whole. She was incredibly smart, brave, kind and selfless, but most importantly one of the best mom's any little girl could ask for.
We hear a lot of stories about people with cancer throughout life, but until your family witnesses it first hand, I don’t think we are fully capable of understanding just how heartbreaking this disease is. Not many speak about the ugly side of it because we want to remember our loved ones for who they were before. But Hollie’s battle with cancer was ferocious to say the least and a true testament to her character and just how amazing she really was. While it originated in her breast, it reached her lymph nodes and quickly spread throughout her entire body. She had multiple tumors in her liver, lungs, spine, eye and brain. She endured many painful treatments including surgery, radiation, chemo, more radiation and more chemo...much of which destroyed her body in the process. The tumor in her eye impaired her vision, the tumors in her spine broke her tailbone, and the brain radiation burned her tongue so badly that she could barely eat for weeks. Despite the pain, exhaustion and inability to have anyone with her for these procedures due to COVID restrictions, she never gave up and continued with chemo and her first dose of immunotherapy until just one week before she passed away. Courageous is an absolute understatement and I want everyone to know just how hard Hollie fought to be here for James and their beautiful twin girls, Adrianna and Brianna.
While the last year has been absolutely brutal, James is unfortunately no stranger to death. In the past five years he has lost his older brother, one of his best friends, Hollie’s dad, and now his wife and the mother of his children, all to unbelievably sad and tragic events. I don’t think there are many of us that can begin to comprehend how difficult this has been for him and I don’t know anyone more deserving of something good in life.
We hope this fund will help provide for the future of Hollie's family and help ease their financial stress during this unimaginable time, allowing James and the girls to focus on mourning the loss of the most important person in their life.
