Help bring high-quality early ed back to St. Paul

We're excited to announce that we have found a very good location for Wonders of Childhood!

We're purchasing a building in the Macalester Groveland neighborhood. While we cannot disclose the location until the purchase is finalized, we can tell you that it has been home to a successful child care center for more than 30 years.

Wonders of Childhood will be a nonprofit program focused on early education for children and their families. Inspired by the life work of Magda Gerber, Wonders of Childhood will embrace RIE® foundational concepts to build respectful relationships that focus on each child’s natural development.

We will feature a strong developmental curriculum, experienced staff and low teacher/child ratios. We will also strive to support exceptional early childhood educators by offering internships, student teaching and research opportunities to adult students. In so doing, we will engage and inspire parents, students and the broader community toward a deeper understanding of the wonders of childhood.

Our current timeline is ambitious. We will close on the building at the end of March and open Wonders of Childhood as close to May 1 as possible. Our opening date is dependent on the licensing process, which thus far is moving along well.

We are asking for your support

We were gratified with the response to our Go Fund Me campaign at the end of 2018, and we're  happy to report that with careful and strategic stewardship, we still have $17,000 from that original campaign.

However, we have startup costs that well exceed those funds and need to raise an additional $40,000. Our goal is to cover our expenses for the first two months including hiring exceptional early educators, launching a nutritious and creative meal service and establishing back-up systems that will ensure a high-quality program for years to come.

Any amount that we raise above and beyond our startup costs will go to Ann’s Gift, a fund named for our beloved colleague Ann Molter, which will provide tuition assistance for families in need.

We know that you have a great appreciation of the difference a respectful, developmentally focused program makes in the lives of young children and their families. We hope that you will make a gift to Wonders of Childhood and help us bring such a program back to St. Paul.  A donation in any amount is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Becca Swiler
