Novel.

Who we are: Created by Artistic Director, *Lyle Oberman, 'Novel.' was born in the depths of lockdown as an innovative way to return to the live performing arts. We are a company of movement based artists utilizing our talents to share stories through abstract performance, and to create personal connection through community classes. Under Direction by Lyle, our company members are **Spencer Grady and **Phylicia Roybal.

What we do: 'Novel.' is about experimental story telling through the medium of movement. Through performance and we tell our stories, through community outreach we hear yours; along with bringing live performance to the Nashville community, we intend on reaching individuals through open dance classes. Our classes are based in somatic movement, dance imagery, and interpersonal connection to ourselves and each other.

Why we need your help: The artists of 'Novel.' are currently in  the rehearsal process for our first performance. While our company works hard to make art and connect with our community we need some extra assistance to make ends meet. Our current rehearsal and performance period is four months long, here is a break down of what your donations can do in four months:

- $10/ hour wages to the dancers for all rehearsals and performances
- $250/ month fee to our partners, 'Shakti Yoga' and 'sometimes.',  for rehearsal studio space.
- $50/ month to build and maintain our website (website is used for company information as well as ticket sales to performances and open class sign ups)
- $100 for flyers, post cards, and performance programs
- $150 performance space fees
- $500 equipment fees, this includes bringing suitable dance flooring (marly) to different spaces, utilizing lighting and sound equipment

*Lyle Oberman, Artistic Director, originates from New York City, where she began dancing at the age of two. Lyle’s love of movement allowed her to develop her craft and receive a multitude of trainings and opportunities. Lyle spent time with the American Ballet Theatre (2008), Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Ga’aton Israel (2013), San Fransisco Conservatory of Dance (2016), MODULE with Sidra Bell (2017), and later obtained her BFA in dance from Ball State University (2017). She completed her 200 hr Yoga Teacher Training at Sri Yoga Peeth in Rishikesh, India (2018), where her study was focused on Ashtanga and Hatha yoga. Lyle's multi-disciplined background allows her to generate choreography based in the practices of musical theatre, classical ballet, somatic improvisation, and yogic studies, all to cultivate what she describes as "athletically artistic story telling."   A few choreographic credits include, Good Fit (Dare Tactic Theatre Festival, NYC), The Attack at Night (NYC), Fiddler on the Roof (JPII High School), and Expiscate (American College Dance Festival, under the Aspire Learning scholarship grant.) Lyle successfully created and ran her own music based yoga studio for 8 months before being shut down by the pandemic. "My intentions with creating 'Novel.' is to get back to the root of my human experience. To move bodies, tell stories, and connect with those around me. I can't take this on alone, I hope you'll join me in creation too."
