Help Keep Guitar Connoisseur Going

Spende geschützt
Guitar Connoisseur's concept was born out of genuine love and passion for Guitar Players and Guitar Builders.

When Guitar Connoisseur was born, the vision was to launch a magazine that provided in-depth interviews with Guitar Builders and Guitar Players.

Why

We believe Guitar Connoisseur is absolutely needed because independent luthiers and smaller boutique companies are often unable to compete with the more prominent guitar companies not only from a pricing and distribution standpoint; but because of their marketing budgets and reach with the press. Guitar Connoisseur aims to redress this imbalance once and for all! And why 'Connoisseur'? Because it's a lovely word representing in-depth knowledge of the finer things in life and demands nothing but the best. This resonates with our target audience.

Who

We have an amazingly talented line-up of contributors already dreaming up editorials and potential write-ups for our upcoming issues. You probably recognize one or two (or all!) of these names from their work with other publications, their contributions in the world of guitar building, and drool-worthy insta feeds.
• Zac DelVecchio (@zacdelvecchio)
• Dave Anderson (@tritoneguitars)
• Steve Rider (@sjrcustomguitars)
• Derek Brad (@musicianportraitproject)

What

You can expect 80-100 pages of content in every issue of Guitar Connoisseur. This will include mainly interviews with luthiers and guitar players. But we may occasionally include the odd bit of gear reviews or the occasional interview with a photographer if the inspiration strikes! We're also playing with the idea of covering guitar shows like NAMM and getting back to video content like the one below:

When

NOW! We just had a relaunch on January 15th and switched our frequency from quarterly to monthly. Now is the perfect time to release 12 issues a year of content, unlike any other gear and guitarist monthly magazine each year.

Where

Guitar Connoisseur is based in New York City, USA. Being in the city that never sleeps with dramatic skyscrapers, a bustling lifestyle, and four seasons will absolutely inform the magazine's direction. Our location encourages us to draw design inspiration and embrace the beautiful textures and colors of the big apple's architecture.

Print and Digital

With so much fantastic guitar content already available online, Guitar Connoisseur stands apart by offering a print publication alongside a digital platform. In a digital age, print encourages us to take our quality standards to a higher level. That's something we're more than familiar with; if anyone is going to value the tactile experience of paging through a gorgeously produced magazine. Guitar Connoisseur is available in a digital format for a couple of reasons. The reality is that you can't survive without it; users have grown accustomed to receiving their content through their devices. We want Guitar Connoisseur to be accessible to as many people as possible, which is why we partnered with Magzter 5 years ago and offer every issue via our website free in HTML 5 format. This separates standalone edition aims to be screen reader compatible.

The Cost

The goal of this crowdfunding campaign is to raise funds for Guitar Connoisseur to help with costs like Computer and software upgrades • Hire more writers • Photo licensing • On-site photo/video shoots • Video post-production • Promotional budget for increased readership and socials • Proofreading • Copy Editing • Monthly service fees such as (Web hosting, email services, adobe creative suite, email marketing, etc.) I have been funding these costs with our sponsors' help, who wholeheartedly believe in this project.
A small amount has been reserved in a contingency pot to deal with unexpected costs or price changes as the project progresses. The budget also accounts for the cost of the amazing rewards for you, our lovely backers! And lastly, there's money to cover those pesky processing fees.

While Guitar Connoisseur has sponsors, and I am so grateful for every one of them. I never thought that people would globally read and support the work we do here in my wildest dreams. However, advertising is notoriously unstable, with revenues jumping and falling from month to month. It makes it hard to plan for the long term.

The most important reason is that we think a community-driven model is a better way to go. We want to create content for our readers, and if they like it and want to see more of it, this is how they can support it.

Everyone has been affected by this pandemic, so we understand if you can't contribute, and that's ok; we are thrilled that you are part of our community and enjoy what we do. If you enjoy our content and can afford as little as $1, it would make a world of difference to Guitar Connoisseur's longevity.

Since our 2012 launch, here are some of the artists and luthiers we have featured:

Guitarists: • Billy Gibbons • Steve Vai • Dweezil Zappa • Joe Satriani • Paul Gilbert • Kevin Eubanks • Eric Gales • Richie Kotzen • David Torn • Tommy Emmanuel • Joe Bonamassa • John 5 • Al Di Meola • Neal Schon • Jimmy Vaughan • The Avett Brothers • Steve Stevens.

If we reach our goal, we can deliver a much better overall experience. We have kept the bar high, now we want to bring the bar to the highest possible standard, and we need your help to get there.
