Recording Beethoven's Violin Sonatas

Donation protected
A year after Beethoven's 250th birthday, Henry Chandler and JP Ekins are commemorating this and the end of UK lockdown by recording all of his ten stunning violin sonatas, the culmination of over a decade of study.

Beethoven composed them over fourteen years from 1798 to 1812, during a time of great development and pioneering change in his compositional style. His revolutionary approach to the violin and piano as a duo was to shape every major sonata that was to come thereafter.

The recording will take place at St. Mary's Church in Barnes - together with its special acoustic and beautiful Steinway D, this venue will produce an intimate and personalised soundworld for this iconic chamber music project.

Alongside sound engineer Chris Kalkov, the process will consist of five three-night sessions, stretching from the beginning of April to the middle of July, with the three-CD set being released in the autumn.

All funds raised will go directly into the project, covering the engineering fee, the venue hire, the tuning of the piano, and the production of the CDs and artwork.

Your support will allow us to complete this long-held ambition, and to emerge from our industry's brutal last twelve months with something to be truly proud of. In the hope of tempting you to make a contribution, we would like to offer you the following:

Donations of £25 and over - a complimentary copy of the 3-CD set upon release.
Donations of £50 and over - a signed complimentary copy of the 3-CD set upon release.
Donations of £100 and over - a signed complimentary copy of the 3-CD set upon release, and an invitation to attend the CD launch as our guest.
Donations of £250 and over - a signed complimentary copy of the 3-CD set upon release, an invitation to attend the CD launch as our guest, and an invitation to attend any of the recording sessions.

If you can afford to contribute something to this exciting venuture, then a thousand thanks from us both.
