Reel Kids EXPANDS

Donation protected
HELLO REEL KIDS FAMILIES!!!

We have some updates!
FIRST OF all-- PLEASE come to our Reel Kids open house  and concert! Saturday August 21st from 6-9pm--we will be having Reel Kids and Boulder Music students perform, hors d'oeuvres, some new improvements to show up, and architectural drawings on what we have left to do! Your will be able to donate specifically to items still in need and see the "larger vision!"

What will be done by our Open House?? Oh my... we will have entry way floors, doors and a good start on the theater space where will be performing!

What are we doing now? Trying to finish the larger construction. Thanks to the generosity of our community, we had two wonderful men, one a contractor, and the other a jack-of-all-trades, come out for the price of pizza and salad, and literally, frame three rooms in the large open space. (pictured above). We now have framing for two dressing rooms and a prop and costume room, COMPLETE and to code. They accomplished it in 8 hours... it was by far, amazing. They also lent us a truck to purchase drywall--which we still need to hang--anyone know how to hang drywall? Ha--it's not super hard.. but it's a lot of drywall, 49 sheets to be exact.

It's hard to plan a dry-wall-hanging-party when we are working sooo many camps. This week alone we had our Acting for Film 1 (with a waitlist of 13 students!) and rehearsals for "25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" AND tech week and shows for Mary Poppins Jr.. plus, my own studio of 26 private weekly voice students at Boulder Music..It was a whirlwind, and it only gets MORE busy for us. Hard to plan painting and drywall days around the other 60 hours of actually class room time! But, it must be done! Your encouraging thoughts are appreciated :)

We are attempting to hang doors! FINALLY we found three discounted pre-hung doors (searching all the Home Depots in the area) and are attempting... to hang them in our new rooms... Helpful hints? This should be interesting :).

What do we need help with?
1.    Do you know anyone that needs extra work to help hang drywall--there's just SO many pieces!

2.    The hallway and bathrooms adjacent theater are still floor-less. The quotes we received for flooring were WAYY too much to consider. Does anyone have connection or idea? it's about 800 sq feet, and we were going to use LVT (luxury vinyl tile/planks) because they can go over the rough-glue-cemnet and wheel chair ramps we have in our awkward half-circle hallway... yet that stuff is EXPENSIVE... I've been looking diligently on craigslist, and do know how to install that flooring myself... but it is SUPER time consuming and hard... Any ideas or help would be so appreciated!

3.  Bathroom vanities--Ok, perhaps I'm being "vain" but the bathrooms are big, AND THERE ARE MULTIPLES!!! and the new paint I gave them gussied them up a bit, but the sink area looks like a warehouse sink from the 90's.. If anyone is getting rid of a small-ish vanity with faucet--please consider donating to us! it would be so pretty.. and I can't justify a couple hundred dollars when it's not "needed", I just can't look at the sink! lol

4. SPREAD THE WORD! THANK You so much for your donations... this is possibly the scariest thing I've personally ever done and I super appreciate all the support! Help us continue that support so we can finish in time for fall classes! SHARE THIS GOFUNDME :)

Thank you:)

Sincerely,
Kari

Note -- we would deeply appreciate any kind of donation of time, material, or money you can afford.. no amount is too small. Because we are at the tail end of a pandemic, we can't even entertain this idea without upfront capital... PLEASE help us so we can continue offering the same outstanding education, entertainment and wonderfully nurturing environment we have for almost nine years, but in a much more professional, state-of-the-art and kid-friendly space!!!

Below are some photos of Reel Kids when we first opened.. and our tireless effort to keep the current Reel Kids space clean, doubling as a theater and tech area:

Nathanial and Owen painting the original space a week prior to opening.
Albert and Cassidy "helping" clean costumes"
Kari and Sam ( a Reel Kids Icon), taking a break from editing/re-designing our website by not one.. but two bags of gummies!
Brianna trying to get ready fo Music Man.. while Link and Cassidy, in the background, dig underneath all the costumes to get cameras ready for Troupe! NO ROOM!  Oh yeah, and they are using the iMac computers as mirrors because prior to this, somebody stepped on the only hanging mirror in the tech room... it was covered by costumes...

Kelly with our original troupe members, Mia and Lainey Anderson, Mei Mei, Madi Remer and Nina Menell
The space was plenty big when we opened with only 12-13 Troupe members and one musical....
Reel Kids families.. thank you for believing in me and supporting me for the last (almost) nine years. I humbly request your support in helping us grow to the next level, so that we can continue to serve you and your wonderful, amazing kids, in a much more comfortable, user-friendly and professional space!!!
