On Friday June 14th 2019 I was detained by The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after living in the United States for the last 16 years of my life. According to them, I was detained due to the fact that I had unlawful entry into the United States. I entered the United States at the age of 6 in 2003. The question I ask DHS is how does a 6 year old consciously and unlawfully cross the Caribbean Sea and enter a country over 700 miles away?
They deported me despite it not actually being my fault for entering the country. And what made it worse was they were sending me back to a country I hadn't seen in 16 years.
Nevertheless, I find myself living in a country with one of the highest murder rates per capita. To say I'm surrounded by poverty and violence would be an understatement. The main thing that keeps my spirit high is the rekindled relationship between me and my mother after being apart for the last 16 years.
All I want to do is make her and my dad proud of me. This situation derailed my plans of the American Dream but I refuse to let it define me.
That is why I'm asking for your help. Any and all donations will go towards my fight to either lawfully migrate back to the United States or even Canada where I'll have a better chance at life and providing for my family. Just imagine someone picked you up today and dropped you off in some random part of the world with meagre means of survival. I feel out of place. My life was in the US...my friends, my family, my memories. Please help me continue my story of life. Thank you.
