Camp Wi-Fi Network Upgrade

Tax deductible

The Dan Beard Council Camp Staff Alumni Association is proud to be coordinating the upgrades of the Wi-Fi network on the Dan Beard Scout Reservation.

The association is working with an IT Consultant volunteer, Bartley Davis, to upgrade the services available at the camps.  There are 9 internet service lines across the DBSR, and they can be hit or miss on reliability.

Camp Staff, Adult Leaders, Scouts, NYLT training weekends, Wood Badge, and rental groups all utilize internet resources at the camps.

The Alumni Association has compiled a detailed plan to expand reliable internet access to 26 locations, including all staff housing*, CF Handicraft, and the the 2 shelters outside of the Camp Craig Program Building. *Cub World Housing was connected in 2019 in part 1 of this endeavor.

The plan will create a network across the reservation, standardize equipment, implement password management, provide the ability to monitor network status, and have all access come from 1 service line.

To make this happen, we need to to raise money for the Equipment.  Bartley Davis is volunteering to install everything.

We need to raise $7525 (includes processing fees) for the equipment. Estimated savings from this initiative to the Dan Beard Council budget is $10,000+ over 6 years because of the reduction in service lines. ***Any donation to this should be considered separate and above your normal Friends Of Scouting contribution.***

No longer will staff have to find a way into a closed building after hours to work on schoolwork, thesis writing, program preparation, research, or just to watch movies on a larger screen than their phone.

Adult leaders at camp can "work from camp" if they need to and work on coursework if needed.

Help us improve the camp and improve the experience of those that come to it!
