Teen Provides Comfort to Kids in Need

Donation protected

CJ Matthews’ inspiring story began when his mother experienced a pregnancy loss when he was five years old. His own grief sparked an idea to create a project to support other kids who might be dealing with similar feelings of sadness. Five year old CJ told his mom that he never wanted another kid to feel sad and lonely like he did, and “Blankies 4 My Buddies” was born. Since then, his small project has grown immensely, having donated well over 10,000 blankets to kids (and adults) facing traumatic situations varying from chronic illnesses to homelessness. But he is especially touched by stories of those who are grieving a loss like he did.

Blankets are only a small symbol of comfort, but the impact is enormous. Kindness is associated with many physical, emotional, and mental health benefits. As kids grow, they need a healthy amount of love and kindness to help them thrive and become healthy, happy, and well-rounded people. CJ realized this at an early age and is committed to helping others feel supported and loved.

In 2021, he donated 1,000 blankets. His 2021 goal is donate 2,000 blankets.
