Desire Path for a Better Future: Sustainability

Donation protected
PLEASE NOTE: The amount shown as having been received for this campaign is the amount we have received since August, 2022. Every penny is spent as soon as it comes in, and goes toward the Desire Kids' most immediate needs. There is no surplus. Read below for more information on how a monthly sponsorship is the best way to help.

We all desire to make a difference, don’t we? By joining Desire Child Care Organization’s global family, we can make a truly unique impact on the lives of compromised and vulnerable children in Uganda.

Unlike other organizations that claim to provide basic needs and require a never-ending stream of support, Desire Child Care Organization (DCCO) has a plan for self-sufficiency through agriculture, which means only a temporary leg up is required to provide a smooth runway toward achieving their goal. Desire offers holistic, arts-based education, and fosters a healthy, loving, and safe family environment.
“We are not an orphanage. We are a family.” - Bugingo “Desire” Moses, Founder

With a monthly sponsorship of $50US/£37.00/€44.00 per child, we can help provide their essential needs, including:
Nutritious Food Daily
School Fees and Supplies
Physical and Mental Health Care
Sanitary Supplies for Girls
Secure Housing
For our three children with special medical needs due to HIV, Sickle Cell Anemia, and Chronic Liver Disease, monthly sponsorship of $100/€96/£80 will cover not only their basic needs but also necessary medical treatments, medications, and hospital stays.

Since August 2022, and against all odds, DCCO has rescued and essentially adopted 33 impoverished, orphaned, neglected, and abused children from the slums of Kampala and Mukono. We have since moved all but 8 children to the countryside, built a boy's dormitory there, and rented a small, secure house in Kampala City with a walled garden for the 8 children who are in school there and therefore cannot move yet. Our goal is to eventually have all our children together in the country.

In February 2023, we tragically lost one of our precious 12-year-olds to a lion attack on his way back on foot from collecting water for the family. In his honor, we have created a special fund to procure a memorial water tank in his name, Goloba Ibrahim, so the children no longer have to walk the two miles each way for clean water.

Along with the sponsorships, DCCO has three foundational initiatives in three phases that we are seeking support with:

Phase One:
Bunk beds and bedding sets for all the Desire Kids, including mosquito nets to help prevent malaria, which is currently the #1 killer of children in Uganda.

Phase Two:
The purchase of livestock, such as chickens, goats, rabbits, and pigs, to provide a much-needed source of protein with milk, eggs, and meat, and to multiply and sell for surplus income toward the purchase of farmland. This initiative aligns with Desire's goal of becoming self-sufficient through agriculture, enabling the organization to operate sustainably and reduce its reliance on external funding.

Phase Three:
To build an arts-based residential independent school. With your support, we can provide a creative, nurturing environment for our children to learn, grow, and achieve their full potential. This school will offer a holistic education, combining traditional academic subjects with creative arts-based learning that emphasizes the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Our target audience for monthly sponsorship includes:
Corporations
Social groups and clubs
Student groups
Faith-based organizations and groups
Individuals of all ages, including children, who have the DESIRE to make a difference in the lives of these 32 children.

Since August 2023, with the help of 56 individual and corporate sponsors from USA, UK, Australia, Canada, Netherlands, and South Korea, we have raised more than $10,538 US (equivalent to £7,657 GBP and €8,982 EUR). ($8,196 was raised right here on GoFundMe!) It is because of generous-hearted people like you that DCCO has already changed the course of these children's lives.

Another aspect of what makes DCCO different is that we are a fully volunteer-based organization, with zero administrative overhead. Every penny goes directly to the welfare of our children, and a detailed account of how every dollar is spent is documented and reported publicly through social media posts and photos, even of receipts, usually within a day or two of the transfer of funds. Transparency and trust are hallmarks of DCCO, every step of the way. We understand that trust is earned, and we will continue to work hard to earn and maintain the trust of all our sponsors for as long as we require outside assistance.

Join us in our ongoing mission to empower and inspire compromised and vulnerable Ugandan children by providing essential needs, holistic arts-based education, and fostering a healthy, loving, and safe family environment. With monthly sponsorship of the Desire Kids, we can truly make a difference in the lives of these special young individuals. Our contributions will shorten DCCO’s path toward self-sufficiency through agriculture, allowing them to create a sustainable future for these children.
Thank you for your impact!

These are the Desire Kids!
23 are now thriving in the countryside, and 8 are thriving in the city.

The Desire Family is mourning the loss of sweet Goloba Ibrahim. Leave them a message of encouragement below. A kind word from the world will help them feel seen and encouraged. You can also upload video messages to YouTube and put the link in your message. They would love some stories, funny jokes, songs, and poems.

On behalf of Bugingo "Desire" Moses, his mum Mrs. Nkinzi Grace & family, and all 31 Desire Kids, thank you for your continued support. They are truly heroes raising heroes.
Let's give them the leg-up they need.

I have been mentoring, fundraising, and volunteer Webhosting for Desire Child Care Organization for several months now. They are an officially incorporated organization that has rescued (and essentially adopted) 32 orphaned and vulnerable children from the slums near Kampala, Uganda. I have vetted the organization, and communicate daily with the founder, Bugingo "Desire" Moses. I fully endorse and stand by Bugingo and his vision. Join me in support of this extraordinary cause!
