Downton for Ukraine

Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, we have Ukranian guests in our village including Svitlana Kondzelia, her son and her father. As with all men of military age her husband Valentyn has to remain in Ukraine. Earlier this year there was a very successful fund raising event in Downton for desperately needed medical aid.

The national news has highlighted the importance of 4 x 4 vehicles in Ukraine serving multiple rolls from military transport, medical support and delivering humanitarian aid. These vehicles suffer attrition through everything from enemy action to the appalling state of the roads.

Valentyn is a volunteer for a Ukrainain charity that is ready to deliver the vehicles to wherever they are most needed. The money that will be collected at the next fund raising will be used to buy a vehicle and cover the cost of delivery to Ukraine. Any money remaining will be used to provide additional humanitarian aid.

A fund raising event is being held on Saturday 25 November at The Sherwood Suite, Wick Lane, Downton, with live ‘60s/’70s covers band VINTAGE providing the entertainment.
