This GFM is being set up to help our dear friends, Wade and Shannon, recover from a devastating medical situation. You may know them from any number of activities they were active members in over the years: LARPs, charity organizations, cosplay groups, and even a local professional wrestling group.

At the beginning of this summer, Shannon fell abruptly ill with what they later learned was necrotizing pancreatitis (a quick summary of the disease can be found HERE ). This is a profoundly awful disease that can very easily kill someone if untreated. Even getting proper treatment, this disease will forever change someone's life. Given the state of American healthcare, it also will forever change someone's finances.

Shannon spent three months in ICU and four months in the hospital total. She only recently managed to come home for the last leg of her recovery. I want that to sink in for a moment. Your last visit to urgent care...did you get out for less than $1000? Probably not. If you've ever been to the ER, that number goes up by 5 to 10 times over, no matter how minor the reason you went. Now imagine how bad those bills are going to be for a two+ month ICU stay. This is going to be crippling to almost anyone. Even with decent insurance, it's a bad situation and I hate to say it, but very few people have decent insurance.

To make matters worse, these two have had a series of costly house breakdowns that need to be fixed to ensure Shannon's recovery. As an example, a water leak damaged the bathroom on the floor where her bedroom is. The cost will run into the hundreds, but has to be done to keep her from having to go up and down the stairs. Given that she is still barely able to stand up and may not improve for weeks to months, they're going to need some help.

Long story short, they need any help they can get. Every dollar is essential. The goal for this GFM is fairly arbitrary...they need more than what we posted, but it would be an ideal starting point to help Shannon recover and to take a load off Wade's shoulders with all of this starting to come due.
