Benji Climbs Kilimanjaro - Courage Climbs

Donation protected
When I was 13, I had the opportunity of a lifetime. I had the chance to climb the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, Mount Kilimanjaro. I remember it was my dad and me with some of my friends and their dads, together we set off on this epic adventure.

We start climbing and the first few days are hard, but nothing can prepare you for that last night as you go to the summit.
The hikes to this point are all during the day. In fact that last day before you go to the summit you hike all day, get in at about 6 pm, you're pretty tired, you eat dinner, and then you go to sleep. But then they wake you up at 11 pm, and they have you hike through the night. It's pitch black, and you're just going up the side of Kilimanjaro in the dark.

I remember climbing the side of this mountain in the pitch black thinking this is never going to end.
By 5 am, I'm sick, and I'm tired, and I'm just not feeling good, and I pull my dad to the side, and we have this little exchange, this conversation… I say "Dad I can't do this, I'm too tired, I'm too sick" and he replied "son, are you sure this is what you want to do?" and I said, "Dad, I'm sure this is what I want to do." And we headed back down to camp.

Fifteen years removed from that decision, there is so much regret tied to that moment. But I realize there doesn't have to be. I'm launching this "Go Fund Me" page to climb Kilimanjaro in 2020.

I believe that just because it didn't happen last time doesn't mean you can't try again, doesn't mean it can't happen next time. Sometimes I think we let past failure and past regret keep us in a position where we stay on the sidelines instead of going after it. I've been on this journey of learning what courage looks like believing that every single one of us has things on the inside of us that we're meant to do and courage is the first step that calls us into those things. So for me it's looking back at a decision made 15 years ago and saying just because it didn't happen then, doesn't mean I can't try now.

Here is what it will take to accomplish this audacious goal:
I must raise $8,000. (Scary to type that)

I want to climb Kilimanjaro in August or September of 2020, so I'm asking would you consider joining this campaign?
Would you invest in this adventure? May this be a way of saying you believe in courage, you believe people should step out and try and try again… I'd love to have you on my team as I seek to accomplish this mission and this goal.

One more thing! Some of you are reading this and thinking: "That is a crazy dream…but it sounds like an epic adventure, and I want in!" If that's you and you and you are interested in climbing Kilimanjaro as well, we have minimal space, but I'd love for you to message me, reach out and let's have a conversation.

Here is what I know, I'm going to climb Kilimanjaro in 2020. It's going to take $8,000 to do it, and I would love for you to play a part in this journey. So, let's raise the funds, make this happen, and let's climb Kilimanjaro in 2020 because courage climbs.
