”U Can .Carve 2”

I am Sheilagh Mercer ,   and an art teacher but my life’s work is teaching woodcarving . I am looking for some help to get started on my own.

I need some help with the finances to have my work scanned so that 3D models  of my own  carvings can be reproduced and be models show different  stages  to carving in the round for my students .

One to show the blocking out , the second shows the rounding out and the third is the finished subject  all detailed , which  also can serve as base for learning how to paint that subject .

I learned a long time ago people learned well when they can see the stages to a carving process .

Its impossible for me to carve one example for each person , yet having my carvings duplicated would certainly help with the teaching process I have developed over the years.

Each model  will relate to the drawn pattern that I made from my own original woodcarving .

I recently started my own Woodcarving school .  My dream is to create a how to carving  book with my own carved patterns.  I drew these patterns over the years as an instructional aid to assist students in their carving .

These classes are for  the absolute beginner and the more skilled alike. ... but people learn better by seeing the carved stages .
The venue  rents space to me for a class on a Saturday for the  absolute beginner, bringing children and adults together with a common interest.

Then there is a Wednesday classes  ( with room to expand this carving school ) for the serious developing carver . I have students now 7 years old and up with their parents carving along side with them. Plus the developing carver and also the advanced carvers who come on the Wednesday 3 hour classes .

Having taught for many years , I wrote how to carve articles for a magazine called “Chip Chats “ . Plus illustrated as an artist for many  magazines.  My carvings won in many competitions and I was invited to  become a judge for carving
competitions, especially after being  the featured Artist (around 1991 ) at Wye Marsh. 
Even though I won in many competitions my main focus remained on helping people to  carve for themselves. I started carving in 1978 and then began
teaching carving in 1985 . Taught for other venues plus many years at Sheridan College  .


My aim is to publish how to carve books  with my
patterns along with some teaching aids . I have drafted many patterns over
the years .  


In 2013 I had a stroke where my
walking was impaired and my confidence in my abilities where interrupted . I AM BACK NOW !

Up until now,  I remained teaching woodcarving and other art classes at several Senior Centres in the area.

This  last year,  I realized my  carving skills I never lost them and my dream of having a carving school has come true .  My aim now is to
Compile my patterns in a book, and copy right them plus Create the  3D teaching aids from my own carvings showing the steps of blocking , rounding and final detailing .

We have a 3D printer but  it’s the Scanner that’s a bit out of reach .

Their are companies who can  scan and reproduce the models  that go with my
patterns.

These models will show the stages to
carving they will relate to a draft style pattern and tutorial step by step
how to carve each subject   .

I am so excited to
create  instructional aids to helping
others carve ...it’s my joy.  

The venue where I now teach and rent space from  is a lovely
location called “THE BARN SCHOOL” . Having taught many art
forms as an Art teacher and a Master
Carver , my focus  could have been in
competition only it made me feel more
joyful  inspiring others to carve . 


My ask is for help to get started  off with scanning and producing 
study aids that will help allot of children and adults learn to carve .

My Classes at the Senior
center are always full with a waiting list as well. ...but it was time  to spread my wings .  I teach many classes at the
senior center ...too many and it still did not finance my stepping out  and creating a
school for carving . So decided to ask for help .
