Funding for Puentes de Cristo

Shortly after I moved to Texas last August, I met Caly Fernández, who has been serving and organizing around the realities of our broken immigration system for more than ten years. Always hospitable, she has invited me to join her in what she calls Kingdom work, ecumenical and interfaith collaboration for justice alongside those most intimately affected by current border policies. She was of great support to my students who led Austin Seminary’s delegation to the border last winter, and she has continued to connect me to all kinds of groups doing good work in border communities like McAllen, Brownsville, and Harlingen.

This summer, Caly retired and moved to the Rio Grande Valley to dedicate herself to this work full time. She and a few of her friends are aiming to revitalize the building in the photo and get their community health work, especially among asylees, into full swing this fall.

As I turn 40, I am reflecting more intentionally on the many ways my life has changed over this past year. Meeting women like Caly who live their faith in ways that honor the people our border policies cause to suffer has been such a gift and a witness to how powerful God's love can be when we recognize that it’s not just ours as individuals.

Help me support the part of God’s dream Caly is called to live into. Give a bit of money to support the work of Puentes de Cristo (Christ’s Bridges).
