Michael Mirth -IKIRU - "To Live"

I have decided to live.

That, although seemingly obvious, is an important decision for someone with a terminal illness to make. I am aware that I have a death wish -- I think all magicians do, to some slight degree. Houdini certainly did, and it is very obvious in some of the stunts that he chose to feature. I have also become aware that I have an indomitable will to survive, and I am going to let that better angel of my nature prevail.

Some of my cells have become over-enthusiastic. I have cancer in my bones and in my lymph nodes.  I was diagnosed in February 2019, although the indicators were present one year ago.  The treatment proscribed by Western science is hormone therapy coupled with chemotherapy. I have agreed to the hormone therapy but am vacillating on chemo.  I am adopting non-tradition lifestyle changes to assist my own body in healing this dis-ease.

It is no small matter to say that expenses are anticipated, and as I write this I am not presently receiving disability. I have been living off meager savings and the grace of my brother Bruce for months. Over the course of my life as a professional entertainer, I have been able to save literally tens of dollars. Thus this Gofundme. Perhaps if you have seen my performance, and it has given you a smile, toss a twenty or a fifty into this virtual hat.

If you need consultation on your act or your tabletop game, or if you need a little promotion of your project through social media, these are things that I can help with. If you would like to be my guest at the world-famous Magic Castle, I can arrange that. Simply ask. My pledge is to continue to offer wonder, and smiles, and Mirth. It is in my soul to do and I  must give it expression, as I live.

Some emotion (probably misplaced) has caused me to delay posting or talking about this illness much until my situation has become stupid urgent. I take responsibility for that as well as my cancer. Probably it had something to do with not having made the decision in the first line of this essay (thank you for reading this far, by the way). Now I have.

"Now we are well resolved, and with Gods's help, and Yours," says Henry V (and I), we will prevail.

Please do what you can, right now, without delay, while you are thinking about it. Help me in my fight & [literally] keep mirth alive!
