It's about saving a 2.5-year baby who is battling for her life with unbearable pain and fear for hospitals and doctors due to constant testings for the past 12 months.
Her name is Laya. She is the daughter of Venu Gopal and Sarita. Venu is local labor and sometimes sings at local functions for some extra income, Sarita is a homemaker. They just get by with their livelihood. Laya was healthy with no significant problem until she reached 18 months of age. She was constantly getting a high fever and a swollen stomach on a regular basis. She had undergone various tests and procedures for a few months before they could finally diagnose her with chronic liver disease. She has now lost her weight from 11kgs to 7kg. She is so fearful of the hospital staff that she screams with terror and clings to her mom. Some times they have to sedate Laya for tests. By this time the family had already spent all their savings and on the verge of selling their house and still can't afford the treatment. Adding to that only a few days ago doctors told that they found cancerous cells. Parents are willing to donate the liver for Laya.
Milaap is collecting funding for this treatment, has collected about 7,00,000 (7 Lakhs) rupees (AUD $14,500). She needs $35,000-$40,000 to live.
We have provided as much as we could from our savings to help her and also tried using our own resources. We even promised Venu & Sarita that we will save every penny to support Laya. But it looks like we are falling short. And we need your support.
