The Roy Brown Society
was founded to preserve and promote the incredible life story of Captain Arthur Roy Brown of Carleton Place.
A Royal Naval Air Service and Royal Air Force Pilot in the First World War, Brown was instrumental in forcing the famous air battle of April 21, 1918 in which the famed German Ace, Baron Manfred Von Richthofen was downed. Captain A. Roy Brown was officially accredited with the downing of VonRichtofen, an accreditation that still stands. A skilled military pilot, teacher and leader, Brown went on to be a pioneer in the post war field of providing bush plane services to the Canadian north.
The Roy Brown Society is also committed to sharing the stories of the many other military pilots and war aces from both World Wars who came from the Carleton Place area.
The Roy Brown Society is currently fundraising to erect a statue in memory of Captain A. Roy Brown in his hometown of Carleton Place, Ontario. This will serve as a constant memorial to the sacrifices and support he and others made to our country.
Nationally recognized artist David Clendining is finalizing plans for a 2.1 meter bronze likeness of Brown, to be located at 200 Bridge Street, on the banks of the Mississippi River, and only blocks from Brown's birthplace.

The Roy Brown Society has been approved for a matching federal contribution grant from the Commemorative Partnership Program, offered by way of Veterans Affairs Canada. The grant is for up to $50,000 of the project costs.
