OUR CLUB NEEDS YOU………..
Spondon Cricket Club was established in 1883, starting as a small village club.
Fast forward to 2020:
We have 6 senior teams including ladies’ cricket, 6 junior teams and schemes in line with the ECB for children too young to play cricket yet. We also have an under 19 academy set up to support our talented players. We are a big part of the Spondon community.
We should be well into our 2020 season now but due to Covid-19 everything has come to a stand still. There is no cricket taking place but the bills don’t stop.
Due to no cricket, no room hire, no membership fees and no bar revenue our loss for 2020 is anticipated to be well over £10,000.
Membership is a key ingredient to the income the club receives to maintain the pavilion and the 2 pitches. This cost doesn’t stop just because the cricket has this year. The club continue to have to pay the bills without this income.
We pride ourselves on what we do as a village cricket club and what we give back to our community every year.
To help to recover as much of the loss as possible we have decided to do a sponsored walk from Spondon to Lord’s the home of English cricket. The walk will be on Saturday 20th June 2020, we will be walking 198KM. We will be taking it in turns to cover the distance by walking round both our pitches. 300 laps later we will arrive at Lord’s!!!
All we are asking is for you to donate whatever you can afford to help support our club and to help us to continue for years to come.
