Casa Kimberly (GENtex)

Casa Kimberly's primary mission will be to provide housing and additional support services to members of the transgender community in the Rio Grande Valley. Trans people in rural areas such as the Rio Grande Valley often face significant barriers to accessing employment and stable housing due to transphobia and lack of familial support and acceptance.  Trans people in our area are disproportionately affected by employment discrimination, experiencing homelessness, and challenges with accessing existing resources- which can often be hostile and non-affirming to the trans community. Casa Kimberly will provide members of our community in need with safe and affirming short-term housing, employment training and assistance, and connection to other needed resources to empower them in improving their lives. Casa Kimberly is a project of GENtex- a nonprofit organization that seeks to provide advocacy and support to the  Rio Grande Valleys transgender, nonbinary, and gender non conforming community.

Housing Services – Our housing services program will provide stable and gender-affirming housing for trans and gender non-conforming (GNC)  individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their home- regardless of their immigration or HIV status .

Preventive Services-  The objective is to help Trans and GNC Individuals that are at risk of acquiring or who are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection especially HIV and to ensure clients receive the most inclusive information on prevention and treatment to promote sexual health and wellness. These services focus on educating our local communities as a preventive measure and connecting them to necessary resources.

Immigration Services -  We will also offer assistance and connection to resources to meet the needs of trans and GNC immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, and other Central and South American countries that are seeking asylum in the United States.

Victims of Violence Program- this future program will provide support, therapeutic, and mental health services to victims of violence- whether it be sexual , physical , or emotional.  Through our Victims Services we will have the capability to provide one on one counseling services for our participants .
