In this photo is my daughter Shantel Renee' Wilson, a hardworking mother of two. I am her mother Wanavia Wilson and I am speaking for Shantel because she cannot do so for herself. Just to tell you a little about Shantel, she has always been a hard worker. Never wanting to ask anyone for help, even when she should. She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes as a teenager, but she never let that or anything else stop her from achieving her goals. She got her Associates Degree in Health Administration at a young age and always put her family first. Over the years Shantel has faced much ugliness in her life since being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, as her health declined throughout the years. She developed Neuropathy - diabetic nerve disorder in 2012, gastroparesis by the time she graduated from college, and suffered from acute Kidney Injury in 2016. Adding to that, she endured verbal and physical abuse in a past relationship and overcame all these obstacles as a single parent, while never losing faith or love for her family.
At 25 years old Shantel had already experienced so many struggles that I prayed every night that God ease her pain. So I remember like it was yesterday when she bought her first home a couple of years ago. She was so proud to be a homeowner in Taylor, MI. and I was so proud of her. But on May 12th her health took a turn for the worst when her blood sugar dropped to dangerous levels while she was sleeping, which caused my daughter to not wake up that morning. When she was found unconscious, EMS was called out who then rushed her to the nearest hospital after they arrived on the scene. My daughter was unconscious and non-responsive for 4 days before she finally woke up on day 5. As of the date of this posting, she is still in the hospital and the doctors are telling me that she suffered significant brain damage as a result of an anoxic brain injury. They are telling me that this is due to a lack of oxygen and blood sugar to the brain for an unknown amount of time and that she will require long-term care and acute rehabilitation.
Please share this fundraising effort with your families and friends even if they personally don’t know Shantel. Any donations will help us take care of any medical expenses/procedures not typically covered by insurance, her home, and her children. I will be withdrawing the funds and using them for that purpose. In addition, not only will this help Shantel get the best medical care, but the money will also go towards helping her two sons Blake and Beau, and help us make needed modifications to the home. These modifications will be crucial in order to facilitate a safe and productive environment for her that is conducive to her recovery, once she is finally cleared to return home. As you can imagine, this has been beyond heartbreaking so anything that you are able to do will greatly bless her. Anything can help and your assistance in the form of daily prayers will be more than welcome.
