Yavapai County Fallen Officer Memorial

Donation protected
Sheriff Mascher recently received approval from the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors to install a fallen officer memorial on the Courthouse Plaza. The memorial will represent and identify those who paid the ultimate price and died serving in a law enforcement capacity within Yavapai County.

A memorial on the courthouse plaza gives residents and visitors alike a reminder of those who paid the ultimate price. The Sheriff noted that this memorial would be a great fit with other memorials on the plaza honoring those who lost their lives in military service. The Sheriff’s Office has been serving in Yavapai County since 1864 and Sheriff Mascher told the Board this honor is long overdue.

Other than for routine maintenance, no tax payer dollars will be used for this project.

As the planning process for the fallen officer memorial moves forward,  Sheriff Mascher and Yavapai County Supervisor Rowle Simmons are proud to announce that renowned bronze smith and Prescott resident, Bill Nebeker, has agreed to create a bronze sculpture for the Yavapai County Law Enforcement Memorial. Sheriff Mascher is excited to have such a well-known and gifted artist involved in the project. Bill said, “I am honored to be a part of this,” and discussed looking forward to working with the memorial committee on the design.

From the fundraising letter recently published -

Greetings,

I am writing to you on behalf of the Yavapai County Law Enforcement Memorial Committee. We recently received authorization from the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors to erect a memorial in the Court House Plaza for those officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice for the citizens of Yavapai County. Renowned western bronze artist and Prescott resident, Bill Nebeker, has agreed to create the bronze sculpture for the memorial. It will feature an officer of the territorial era portrayed in a western style, with hat in hand, looking down in honor towards an empty pair of boots signifying the deceased officers. The statue shown is only a concept sample.

Any law enforcement officer who was killed in the line of duty in Yavapai County will have their names engraved on a plaque next to the empty boots.

The memorial is long overdue, and we are hoping you will join us in making it a reality. Of course, there are significant costs involved and we are asking you to consider donating towards our goal of $80,000. If you would like me, or any of the committee members to meet with you and discuss this project, please give me a call.

The Committee has also set up a ‘Gofundme’ website which will allow community members to contribute directly to the memorial fund. The link to this website is: https://bit.do/yavapaimemorial. Alternatively, checks may be made out the Law Enforcement Memorial Fund and sent to the Sheriff’s Office at 255 E. Gurley Street, Prescott, 86301.

On behalf of those officers who have died in the line of duty, I would like to thank you for any financial help you may be able to provide.

Sincerely,

Yavapai Sheriff Memorial Committee

Committee Members include Sheriff Scott Mascher, Chief Deputy David Rhodes, Supervisor Rowle Simmons, Retired Sheriff Steve Waugh, Retired County Attorney Investigator Shane Reed, and Sheriff’s Historian Ron Mayes.
