Deanna's Transition Fund

Donation protected

Transition is expensive, especially if you're doing it later in life. I've lost a lot of hair and this, along with my facial features has prevented me from passing as a woman.  I could theoretically wear a wig, but my head is unusually large, and only a handful of wigs even can fit, and those that can don't last very long and are often scratchy.  I don't want to have to wear a wig for the rest of my life.

I've already spent over $7,000 on hair removal for my beard, undergoing a lengthy process that still is ongoing.

My breasts are stuck at the development of a tweener. Add to that, my relatively large upper rib cage (thanks to testosterone) means that it's nearly impossible for me to find bras that can fit at all, not just fit well. So I need a breast augmentation. I'm hoping that the province will fund this, but it's not a guarantee.

Finally, and the impetus for this gofund me, I need facial feminization surgery, particularly on my forehead, including my hair line. Although I've tried to get the province to fund FFS, they have as yet, refused to do so despite the fact that this reconstructive surgery is medically necessary for transwomen.

Getting these surgeries will vastly improve my quality of life. From talking to other transwomen, FFS is often said to be life changing, and this would change my life. At a minimum, it would stop the harsh stares when I'm in public, because it would enable me to blend in.  I wouldn't feel like I'm looking at a man every time I look in the mirror. Right now, I don't feel comfortable going swimming, because my body is increasingly looking more female, but my face doesn't match.  I'm becoming uncomfortable going into ANY bathrooms...men's bathrooms because I'm wearing women's clothes...and women's bathrooms because I have a man's face and hair.

But above all, it'll increase my safety. Even though British Columbia is one of the most accepting places in the world for transgender people, all it takes is one person to object to my existence.

In order to afford FFS, Tina and I are refinancing the house, which will impact our ability to save for retirement, as well as take away opportunities for making memories with Sagan.  The cost of FFS alone will be around $40,000, and the potential costs for hair removal and other proceedures could be another $20,000 total on top of that, so I'm setting my goal to $30,000.

Any little bit helps. If you can't donate directly, please share this campaign.  And thank you.
