KATALIN LASZLO

Donation protected
Dear friends and colleagues,

With great sadness I regret to share the news that our friend and coworker Katalin Laszlo lost the unfair battle with blood cancer at the age of 41 on May 27th 2020 at the hospital where she was being treated. (where she also contracted COVID-19, which most likely shortened her days on earth even more). All of us who knew Katalin, have lost a great person and a friend who was always there for us. She was always willing to help and listen to our problems, while keeping her own pain and suffering mostly to herself. Katalin was trying not to burden us with the difficulties she’s been living with since she was first diagnosed with cancer just two months before giving birth to her second daughter in 2016. She fought hard for the past 4 years and tried every possible treatment that could perhaps extend her life by a week or even a day so she can spend more time together with her loving husband Erick and their two beautiful daughters Natalia, who is now 8 years old, and Amelia, who is just 4.

I still remember the day I met Katalin. It was March 3rd, 2008. It was my first day at Safavieh and Katalin was among the first people that I was introduced to. She quickly became my friend and helped me adjust to the new environment. More importantly, we connected as people who shared similar backgrounds - we both grew up in Eastern Europe in two neighboring countries. Katalin was born in Romania to a Hungarian family and she spent her childhood and teenage years in Romania. Her dream growing up was to have a career in fashion and design. When the opportunity presented itself, she decided to come to the U.S. all by herself and pursue that dream. Katalin graduated successfully from The Fashion Institute of Technology in 2006 earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Textile Surface Design and quickly thereafter started working for Safavieh as a Rug Design & Product Development Manager. Everything in those days in her life was like a fairy tale where beautiful things were happening one after another. As she became a key person at Safavieh’s design department, she met her loving husband Erick and then they had their first daughter Natalia. While expecting her second daughter, her world went upside down with the shocking diagnosis of an incurable form of blood cancer. As a young, strong person and a mother, Katalin had to face the worst possible news in life. News that she may not be able to see her children grow up, nor be able to see them graduate from school or college and be with them and protect them. The biggest fear of every person and parent was now a reality for her.

As fellow human beings, I kindly ask you to make a donation that will help Katalin’s husband and both of her young and beautiful daughters get back on their feet after such a terrible loss that unfortunately carries not only emotional but also a financial burden. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated. Katalin deserves at last to be in peace and know that we, the people who knew her, the people that she was always kind to, are now here to help and give a hand to her family and do whatever we can for them to go through these extremely unfair and difficult times.

Thank you very much for your kindness and may all of you stay safe and healthy.
